Named Scholarship Application Process

Many benevolent Alter supporters have invested in Alter students through the establishment of a named scholarship.  They are committed to making a Catholic education possible for current and future generations.

Named scholarships fall into two categories: need-based and merit-based. Many scholarships recognize students’ service, leadership, and academic achievement. All named scholarships require the following:

  • Students must be in good disciplinary standing and maintain a positive record of behavior.
  • Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to apply for a named scholarship and if awarded, must maintain it. Several named scholarships have higher GPA requirements than 2.0.
  • Every fall, the school hosts a Named Scholarship Brunch for all benefactors and recipient families. Participation is expected for recipient families.

The application process for a Named Scholarship includes the following steps:

  1. Applications for named scholarships are accepted from September 1 through November 14.
  2. First-year students to Alter submit a completed an Alter High School Application and be on file with the school by November 14, for consideration of any named scholarship.
  3. If applying for a need-based scholarship(notated with an * below), the following are required:
  • FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment must be submitted online by November 14.
  • EdChoice Scholarship Application must be submitted before an award can be made.
  1. Families can apply for more than one scholarship.
  2. Most scholarships require an application and essay. Be sure your essay is specific to the prompt provided.
  3. For scholarships that require references:
  • Each reference should be a non-family member.
  • References do not have to be unique for each scholarship application.  We will automatically attach your received references to all your submitted applications.
  • References are submitted via an online form due by November 14. Please share this link with your reference: https://alterhs.org/scholarship-reference-form/
