Maura Homan Memorial Scholarship
Maura Homan’s life was filled with love, adventure, achievement, and challenges. She was universally loved, respected, and cared about by all those who held a place in her heart. She was an open book with unlimited passion and desire to help both humans and pets in need.
Her drive for excellence was apparent in all she pursued and was poised to continue a life of achievement. Whether school, work, volunteering, even her love of fashion, Maura excelled. She was also open with her mental health struggles and hoped that transparency with outsiders about her journey could inspire others to seek help when needed.
God has a plan for each of us, and it is not for us to question that plan but to have faith and trust in it. Maura’s life was a gift granted by God, a blessing known by all family and friends who knew her. In tribute to her life, the Maura Homan Memorial Scholarship has been created to perpetuate her memory and share with others her spirit of love, humility, and faith.
Award: $1,000
Eligibility:
- Current or incoming Alter Student
- Require a minimum 2.0 GPA
- Good behavioral record
Consideration: Other items to consider would be participation in clubs, activities (at Alter or outside), character attributes.
Essay: In 200-350 words, essay on a question of importance to you. Maura always pushed herself to get out of her comfort zone, whether it was academics, Lancerettes, athletics, or her faith journey. While not every risk turned out the way she desired, she walked away from that experience as a confident, strong leader. Describe a time in your life when you faced a similar situation. Explain the situation, how you approached it, how the experience affected you.
