Alter Class of 1988 alums, Robert Neumann and Marvin Hartsfield established the Mary Ruth Shearer STEM Scholarship to reward a high performing student entering their senior year as a bridge to the pursuit of a STEM post-graduate education. This scholarship honors Mary Ruth Shearer ‘73, and her contributions to STEM education and Alter High School.

Eligibility:

  • Current Alter Junior

Essay Prompt: In 200-350 words, describe your dedication, passion, time and energy towards an aspect or area within STEM education and how your plan to pursue and develop your talents further at Alter and beyond. Also include any intent to pursue a STEM college degree.

Reference: One reference required.


Special: Consideration of a candidates PSAT Math Score/ACT Math & Science and AP Test scores and/or AP STEM Classes (registered and taken through the evaluation period) will be used to make the award.
