The family and friends of Kurt Murnen (’97) wanted to honor his memory. Kurt was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in the summer of 1996 and lost his battle with cancer in the spring of 1999. FC44 Foundation, Inc. was formed by the family and friends of Kurt Murnen to perpetuate his legacy. The Foundation will continue his fight against the disease that took his life by supporting organizations aimed at the research and treatment of cancer. The Foundation is also providing a scholarship to a current Alter student who has faced a current or recent adversity or challenge, approaching it with the same attitude and characteristics that Kurt did during his senior year at Alter. Kurt was described by family and friends as handling his adversity with characteristics including but not limited to: positivism, courage, resilience, faith, determination, integrity, confidence, and resolve. Student applicants must approach their adversity with the same characteristics.

This scholarship will be given to a current Alter student for their senior year in recognition of the adversity or challenge they faced as Kurt did with a positive attitude, courage, determination, and faith. Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee made up of Alter faculty and FC44 Foundation, Inc. Directors.
