
This scholarship honors the spirit and character of Kirk Mastromatteo ’89 who left an indelible imprint on the lives of everyone he met. From the early days of being the Alter student football manager to Head Coach of the Poland National Champions, Kirk was a friend to everyone. Kirk overcame physical obstacles in his youth through his desire, passion, and hard work. He saw the best in every person, especially those he coached and approached his life with purpose to make the lives around him better. His coaching philosophy is evident in his words, “I’m going to coach you hard, but I’m going to love you hard too.” Candidates will need to:
- Have a demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles and adversity with a positive attitude
- Have a deep passion and work ethic pursuing a special interest such as athletics, performing arts, service, or academics.
- Be a friend to all they encounter and enjoy camaraderie of fellow classmates, teammates, and community members.
Award: $1,000
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen or current Alter student
Essay: In 200-350 words describe how you have overcome an obstacle in your life; physical, emotional, or otherwise. Include a list of your extracurricular activities demonstrating passion, work ethic and peer camaraderie.
