Class 101 at the Taylor Resource Center is the first of its kind in the United States! Thanks to investment support by Chester and Stephanie Yeager, the partnership between Archbishop Alter High School and Class 101 of Dayton was established in 2023. Led by Owners and College Planners Tony and Karen Lane DeRosa, this is the first on-site Class 101 partnership in a high school in the United States!

Why Class 101?

We recognized the gap of readiness for many families as they try to navigate the complex process and necessary steps for students to reach best outcomes after high school. For some graduates, their path will be a four-year college, for others a trade school or junior college or alternative. Regardless, the process to determine a graduate’s future will be thoughtful and personal.

Class 101 is Alter’s in-house resource for supporting our students in taking key steps toward a future that they design.

Alter counselors advise students in areas of curriculum and course selection to achieve graduation and academic readiness for college. Class 101 works in concert with our counselors to provide the following guidance in small groups and workshops:

  • College list research and understanding college programs
  • Application and essay support
  • Resume writing and development
  • Scholarship and financial aid workshops

Class 101 Impact

The expected outcome of Alter’s partnership with Class 101 is for the long-term success of our alumni. Investment in an Alter education is intended to develop prepared, resourceful, and conscientious citizens enabled to reach their highest potential. We believe our partnership with Class 101 is a critical component for this outcome.

We measure the impact of Class 101 through data analysis and tracking of multiple constructs including retention in college, merit and competitive scholarship achievement, and student and family satisfaction. We will share this data as it is acquired.
