For Seniors:
After a wonderful start to the new school year, the Guidance department is poised and ready for another busy college application season. Although we realize this can be an incredibly overwhelming time for both parents and students, we are here to help!

Once again for the class of 2022, we will be utilizing the college and career readiness software, Naviance. Mrs. Brown and Ms. Hammaker visited the senior Theology classes last week to distribute the famous yellow folders and speak to them about applying to college. These yellow folders contain everything an Alter senior needs to know when applying to college; the exciting stages of the college process; forms needed for completion; and resources available to an Alter senior. To assist parents with the same topics, the Guidance office is sponsoring a Senior Parent Night to be held on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:45 in Alter’s Theatre. Attendance is always encouraged. If you have questions or concerns during this exciting time in your student’s high school career, please know that the Guidance office is only a phone call or email away. Your students know they can stop in throughout the day whenever the counselors are available.

An important email was sent to students and parents in the senior class to provide all the details about visits from college admissions staff.Students can see a list of scheduled college visits by the guidance office and library, and can sign up for these visits via Naviance. For any questions or concerns, please see Ms. Sutter in the Guidance office.

Please also encourage your student to utilize the Taylor College Resource Center throughout their application process. Mrs. Balent is the new facilitator of the center and brings with her a wealth of knowledge from her experience as a school counselor. She is here to help, as well!

For Juniors:
An important email will be sent to students and parents in the junior class to provide all the details about visits from college admissions staff. These individuals represent schools from around the country and will be stopping by Alter this fall. For details onschool visiting, all the times and dates, and to sign up, please see Ms. Sutter in the Guidance office.

For Freshmen:
We are thrilled to finally have the Class of 2026 in the building! After months of preparing for their transition to high school, we are hopeful that all of our freshmen students are quickly adjusting to their roles as Alter Knights. However, we do realize this change to high school can often be filled with some anxiety and apprehension. At any time, a student is welcome to stop in, email, or call their counselor with their concerns.

For All Students:
If an issue arises in a particular class, please contact that teacher directly for assistance. As a reminder, students with last names A-L have Mrs. Shannon Brown for their counselor. She can be reached at shannon.brown@alterhs.org or 428-5333. Ms. Kristen Hammaker is the counselor for students with last names M-Z. Her contact information is kristen.hammaker@alterhs.org or 428-4332. We want to remind you that our primary focus is on our students and to assist in their high school journey. We are grateful to be involved in the lives of your students. Please feel free to contact us via email or phone at any time. We also love meeting with parents, so feel free to call or schedule a visit anytime.
