An academic trivia competition where a team of 4 students compete against other schools.

Meetings occur once-a-week in the morning. Matches are after school on Tuesday.

Album Club offers interested students the opportunity to analyze music from a variety of genres in a small group, Socratic format. Prior to meetings, participants select several albums to discuss at the next meeting, and then at meetings share their views on various elements of the music on the album such as harmony, rhythm, song structure, and the dynamics or flow of the songs on the album. The objectives of Album Club include:

  • Develop active listening skills with the music we listen to and enjoy
  • Develop a greater appreciation for a variety of music genres.

A community to bring together those who appreciate the artistic styling and engrossing plot lines offered by Japanese animation.  From watching an array of animated shows and movies to discussing the related manga (comics) series, this club’s goal is to create a laid-back place of belonging and create friendships among its students.

Students interested in paint, sculpture, fiber etc.; will explore these mediums through hands-on projects throughout the school year. We will be doing thematic projects such as Painting Pumpkins for Halloween or making beautiful cups for a hot chocolate winter party. Students will also be visiting Dayton Art Institute for a tour to explore exhibitions.

Meetings occur the first Wednesday of the month after school in Seton Hall Art room for 1.5 hours.

The purpose of the Book Club is to meet and discuss Young Adult books, promote reading for pleasure, and complete one community service project each school year. Meetings are held in the library @ 7:30 a.m. on the first Friday of the month for 30 minutes.

Open to all students interested in exploring the next steps of college and careers. Our upperclassmen officers and the moderator, Mrs. Talarczyk, will share their experiences in the college search process (how to prepare, search, apply, select, and pay for college) and in career exploration (how to discover careers that fit you best).  Guest speakers will share their own unique experiences.

Meetings will be monthly before school at 7:30 in the Taylor Center.

Students are you interested in making a difference in the lives of those around you?  We reach out to the community of Alter as well as the local community through a myriad of activities like PJ’s for PJ’s at Christmas.

An organization for those who have what it takes to prove that gaming also has its own place in the “sports” category.  The team not only offers the chance to earn scholarship money through tournaments, but also growth within the realms of team-work, life-balance, commitment, strategizing, and communication.

Students interested in the environment will help Alter and the community become more green, by hands-on projects throughout the school year. Projects could include picking up trash at local parks, touring water and recycling facilities, creating art from recycled materials, helping the recycling program at Alter and more.

Meetings will occur once-twice each month before or after school in room 106 for 20-40 minutes.

Students interested in the world of fashion will be learning to upcycle clothing, sew, stich and pattern through the school year. Students explore different types of fashion and media as well as growing their confidence as best as they can. This year students are going to do have a swap clothing drive as well as visiting a runway show, as well as hosting our own.

Meetings occur the first Thursday of the month after school in the Seton Hall art room for 1.5 hours.

The purpose of this club is to extend a student’s understanding and appreciation of the French language and culture beyond the classroom.  During meetings, students sample French cuisine as well as some of the dishes of French-speaking countries.  They also celebrate French holidays.  Members of the French Club also do a service project annually. This year, with the help of the French Club president, Enzo Lauderbach, students will get penpals living in/around Nancy, France.

German Club provides students with the opportunity to make new friends and practice language skills. Activities include attending the Dayton Oktoberfest, a joint World Language Celebration event, and German Holiday parties. Activities vary each year.

Open to all students that are interested in learning about various careers in the medical / dental / veterinary / nursing / and research fields. Professionals from the community will be invited to Alter to give presentations about their health-related science. Club meetings happen in conjunction with STEM Talks.

Students interested in learning about the stock market and other financial investments will meet throughout the year to add to or acquire knowledge about different investment opportunities and strategies. Students will learn how young people can start to invest money and become financially literate. Meetings will occur once or twice a month after school.

Key Club promotes service opportunities for the members of the club, and to encourage students to keep track of their service hours. In addition, Key Club works to foster leadership, service and character.

The Knights for Light Club strives to promote the sanctity of life from conception until natural death. Activities include support of local crisis pregnancy centers, possible participation in March for Life in Washington DC, and Rosary rallies.

Fisher’s of Men (FOM) seeks to discover the meaning of authentic masculinity through virtue rooted in Jesus Christ. learn about virtues to cultivate authentic masculinity to combat the lies of what our culture teaches about what it means to be a man. Mr. Rich and Mr. Ruff teach on a specific virtue every week and then everyone comes up with concrete goals on how to act on and choose the specific virtue in their daily life through holding each other accountable throughout the week. Mock Trial offers interested students the opportunity to learn the law and how our legal system functions in a competitive format. Guided by Mr. Clough and volunteer legal advisors, students participate in an original, unscripted simulated trial provided by the Ohio Center for Law Related Education. Participants argue both sides of the case in real courtroom competitions against teams from other schools across the state. Additional objectives of Mock Trial include:

  • Develop critical thinking, public speaking, and listening skills
  • Develop greater understanding for the law and court procedures
  • Develop better understanding of constitutional rights and responsibilities

The Optimist Club works to spread optimism throughout the Alter and greater Dayton community, seeking to serve particularly those whose needs are neglected.  As part of the larger Optimist organizations and partially sponsored by the Centerville Noon Optimists, the Alter Optimist club engages in a variety of activities both within and outside the Alter community.  Some examples include; Flower sales, easter egg hunt, Halloween hayride, etc.

Peer ministers serve their fellow students by sharing their faith, skills, talents, and friendship.  Peer ministers help to carry out the Catholic mission of the school through liturgies, retreats, prayer, service, and other activities.  All current freshmen, sophomores and juniors may apply.  Members commit to living Gospel values and promoting the faith life of the school and are servant leaders for their peers. All peer ministers commit to attending monthly meetings and to working on at least on project or committee within peer ministry each year.

Philosophy Club offers interested students the opportunity to analyze the ideas of philosophers from throughout history in a small group, Socratic format. Prior to meetings, participants select opposing philosophic views from two historic philosophers to discuss at the next meeting, and then at meetings share their views on various ideas presented by the philosopher. Elements of the philosopher’s ideas such as, free will, ability, moral responsibility, and personal determination are discussed. The objectives of Philosophy Club include:

  • Develop critical thinking and reflection skills
  • Develop open dialogue skills
  • Develop an appreciation to historic philosophic text

Students will compete in 23 events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.

Students interested in the Spanish language and culture will enjoy trying different foods and creating crafts (sugar skulls, piñatas, etc.) throughout the school year. Meetings will occur once a month to eat, create exciting projects, and discuss culture.

Upper Room exists to provide students with an opportunity to encounter the love of Jesus Christ in powerful ways in their lives. Upper Room is focused on making known the reality that the kingdom of God is present and can be lived out here and now! It includes captivating testimonies by students and/or outside speakers about what God has done in their lives, small group discussions, meditations, praise and worship, prayer workshops, and more! If you want to see more of the power of the Holy Spirit demonstrated in your life, this club is for you!

The Ultimate Frisbee Club is a club dedicated to learning and playing the game of Ultimate Frisbee. The club practices and plays games against themselves and other teams. Members enjoy learning the game, getting fit through exercise, and bonding with their teammates. Ultimate Frisbee Club meets to play on Sundays from 4:30-6:00 pm during the fall and spring at Ernst Park, and both men and women are welcome to join.

Women’s Fellowship strives to foster a supportive faith community and to discuss topics that affect young girls in light of their faith. The format includes introduction of topic, discussion of passages, and spiritual check-in.
